Are You a High Emotional Intelligence Person?

    By Anistar Technologies | Candidates, Employee Resources | Comments are Closed | 6 December, 2018 | 1

Whether you realize it or not, your emotional intelligence is usually shown at work every single day. Employers today look for job candidates with high emotional intelligence, since they typically value soft skills as much as technical skills. No matter if you’re looking for network security jobs or if you want to become a data center engineer, being emotionally intelligent is evident and should be something to take seriously. Here are some characteristics of an emotionally intelligent person.

    Flexible When Change Occurs

Most people don’t like change, and aren’t afraid to express their displeasure when situations change. However, one of the signs of an emotionally intelligent person is being flexible and adapting to the change and making the most of it. With IT security jobs, there’s always going to be change simply because technology is always evolving. Taking change in stride is a valuable characteristic employers look for in their employees.

    Control Reactions

Situations at work can cause reactions, whether it’s with the actual job duties or toward other colleagues. A person with high emotional intelligence won’t react rapidly to any given situation. Instead, they will take a moment to think through their response and make rational decisions and reactions as a result. Understanding that other people are not the same as you is difficult at times, especially in the workplace. But when you do understand this, it will be easier to work with colleagues and you’ll be viewed by management as a person with high emotional intelligence.

Understand Strengths As Well As Weaknesses

Every data center engineer has their own strengths and weaknesses, just like professionals with IT security jobs. Understanding your strengths and working on your weaknesses can benefit everyone in an organization. You can anticipate potential problems and know when those problems fall within your strengths. An emotionally intelligent person will also not only acknowledge their weaknesses, but go out of their way to address them and turn them into strengths.

    Acknowledge And Learn From Mistakes

No one wants to make mistakes at work, but everyone does and will continue to do so. Instead of dwelling on mistakes, an emotionally intelligent person will learn from them and do what it takes to ensure the same mistake doesn’t happen again. No employee is perfect at their job, and a person with high emotional intelligence understands this. Failure is simply a bump in the road to overcome and have success rather than a roadblock for an emotionally intelligent person.

At Anistar Technologies, we help job candidates understand what hard skills are needed for the job they desire, as well as the overlooked soft skills. You may not think emotional intelligence is important for network security jobs, but the truth is you will use those skills every day in different ways. When you know your own strengths and weaknesses in this regard, you can work toward improving every aspect of your emotional intelligence. Feel free to contact us to learn more about this trait and how you can apply it every day.
