Applying for an A/V Job? Follow These Resume Tips

By Anistar Technologies | Careers, Employee Resources, Job Seekers | Comments are Closed | 7 August, 2018 | 1

If you’re thinking about entering the audio/visual industry workforce, or if you’ve been in it for a while and want to change jobs, it’s time to start thinking about crafting your resume. While there are numerous AV technician jobs available anywhere you look, there are also just as many applicants. Even if you have a connection with a potential employer and it seems like you’re guaranteed the job, you’ll still have to submit a resume at some point. Here are some tips for putting together a resume that will help you stand out when applying for the best AV technician jobs.

    Create A Clear Resume Format

You only have a few seconds to impress a recruiter or hiring manager with your resume. If yours has big blocks of text with very little white space, then chances are it will get tossed to the side. Incorporate white space by using indentations, headers, bullet points and more. Once you’ve finished writing in the information, you should be able to take a quick look at the page overall and see a nice, clean appearance.

Use Bullet Points To Highlight Achievements

In addition to creating effective white space, bullet points also allow you to highlight your most notable achievements. Whether you’ve had previous AV engineer jobs or not, talk about your experiences, what you’ve been able to accomplish and what your most recent role has been. Be as specific as possible and use statistics when appropriate. This bulleted list is likely going to be one of the first things a hiring manager reads, so make it count.

    Keep Your Resume Brief

If you’ve had various AV installation jobs over the course of many years, you likely have a significant amount of experience. Even if you could write multiple pages for your resume, do your best to keep it to a single page. Do this by talking only about recent experiences, professional certifications and most notable achievements that are relevant to the employer you’re submitting the resume to. Hiring managers prefer concise resumes with only the most important information displayed.

    Proofread Thoroughly

Finally, you have to proofread your resume thoroughly if you want to have a chance at getting AV installation jobs. Typographical errors or other mistakes look bad and may get you immediately disqualified from consideration. The best thing to do is allow a friend, family member or even a professional proofreader to look over your resume and fix any errors before submitting it.

At Anistar Technologies, we want to help candidates find the best AV technician jobs they qualify for. Whether you need tips on how to craft your resume, what a potential employer of interest is looking for or anything else, we are here to help you.
