How to Survive in the Gig Economy

By Anistar Technologies | Careers, Contractors, Employee Resources | Comments are Closed | 30 July, 2019 | 1

Deciding to become an independent contractor or consultant is exciting and intimidating at the same time. You no longer have to worry about the structure of a 9-5 job with a boss constantly breathing down your neck. However, if you want to maintain a similar lifestyle, you’re going to have to find other ways to stay motivated and keep your business coming in. Whether your specialty is in cyber security contract jobs, software developer jobs or any other technical field, here’s how to survive when you have to live off of different gigs.

    Maintain Structure And Organization

You may have left your traditional job because the structure and organization were too much for you to handle daily. But finding a routine that works for you and sticking with it will likely make you more productive overall. The good thing is you can create your own routine instead of having to follow someone else’s they put in place for you. In many situations, independent contractors mimic a traditional work environment in the way they prepare for their day to stay on track.

    Stay Connected

Traditional AV technician jobs require collaboration among team members. But when you’re on your own, it’s easy to get disconnected from others in your industry. This disconnection can turn into social isolation and could impact your work negatively. Stay connected as much as you can, whether it’s reaching out to former co-workers or meeting new people at networking events. A great thing about networking events is you never know when you may get more AV technician jobs just by talking to someone who needs an expert.

Remember The Benefits During Any Struggles

There will be struggles when you’re in the gig economy. When those struggles happen, remember the benefits of why you wanted to become an independent contractor in the first place. You may have decided to base your income solely on cyber security contract jobs for freedom and flexibility. Income will go up and down, but the flexibility and freedom will remain, so look at the silver lining and continue working to dig out of any holes you may get in.

    Reevaluate Goals

It’s always important to reevaluate your goals. Whether you made ambitious goals or less-aggressive goals from the beginning, checking in on them periodically will help you stay on track. Goal-setting is critical for survival in the gig economy. You can base your goals on the amount of AV technician jobs you get, how many new customers you get each month or anything else that motivates you. Evaluating, analyzing and revising should be the norm, though.

Anistar Technologies has access to hundreds of jobs across the country for the right skilled professionals. Some employers only want to hire full-time or part-time employees, but many of them prefer to work with independent contractors. Now is a great time to be a part of the gig economy and we can help put you in front of cyber security contract jobs or other gigs. Don’t hesitate to contact us at any time to see how our services work.
