Whether it be a safety certification proving a contractor can operate machinery or one that illustrates a certain level of expertise in the industry, certifications provide several benefits to workers in the networking and technical fields.

Why get certified
Working with electricity, technology or heavy equipment presents a variety of risks to workers and those around them. Certifications provide a standard for understanding the risks and regulations in a given field. That’s why employers and recruiters rely on certifications to prove who understands the risks and proper procedures for their line of work.
On top of that, certifications show which candidates are dedicated to their craft, increasing their chances for employment. As a recruiter, I find that companies interview and hire quicker based on certifications. That may be the best way to stay with a company long term, too.

Start with the most common certifications employers are looking for. For cable technicians, this can be either a BICSI or OSHA Certification (safety certification). This shows that you can properly perform a job while being safe. NICET Certifications are great for fire alarm technicians as well.
Overall, safety is extremely important to employers. Therefore, recruiters are often on the lookout for proof a candidate knows their stuff. Getting OSHA Certified can sometimes be the easiest way to stand out in a growing pool of qualified candidates.
