Cable Technicians and Lead Cable Technicians
Many organizations in the communications industry are ramping up hiring to meet the increased demand for their services. Cable Technicians and adjacent professions are among the most heavily sought after.
Example preferred qualifications:
- Experience working with various cables, including twisted pair, coax, Category 5, Category 6, single and multi-mode fiber optic cables.
- Experience with cable installation, including pulling, placement, terminating, testing, and labeling.
- BICSI certification a plus
- IDF/MDF, rac install, fiber termination and testing experience are also a plus.
- Extreme attention to detail
- Ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision
Example job responsibilities:
- Pulling and routing CAT5 or CAT6 cable in a new construction and existing structure commercial environment
- Operating and working from lifts
- Terminating data jacks
- Installing support structures like ladders, racks, and j-hooks
- Building out cable closets
Cable Pullers
Similar to cable technicians, many of our clients in the communications space are offering long-term opportunities for experienced cable technicians.
Example preferred qualifications:
- 1 year experience in commercial cabling
- Experience pulling and terminating cables
- Ability to climb ladders and insert cable in Access Points
- Solid base knowledge of conduits
- Any Coax maker certifications a plus
Example job responsibilities:
- Pull, terminate, and test CAT-5, CAT-6
- Hang AP’s
- Install j-hooks
- Read blueprints
Tower Technician
As the U.S. continues its 5G buildout, the industry is experiencing healthy demand for qualified Tower Technicians.
Example preferred qualifications:
- Experience climbing and working on communications towers for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna systems equipment
- 2+ years experience installing and servicing cell towers and comparable structures
- Ownership of basic telecom tools: punch down, snips, wire strippers, cordless drill, hard hat, boots, safety glasses, etc.
- Familiarity with Climber Safety, OSHA, or NEC standards.
Example job responsibilities:
- Familiarity with antennas, necessary cabling and grounding, and GPS equipment
- Electrical installation and testing
- Site maintenance such as painting, equipment maintenance, and clean-up and removal of trash
- Assisting in tower work (climbing required)
- Ensuring safety standards are met daily
- Climbs and works on communications towers for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna systems equipment.
AV Technician
Demand for qualified AV technicians and engineers has remained very healthy as there continues to be a gap between openings and qualified professionals to take them. The BLS projects a growth rate of 8% through 2028, which is higher than the national average for other occupations.
Example preferred qualifications:
- BICSI certification highly desired
- CTS, CTS-1, and CTS-D also highly desired
- Ability to terminate RJ45. RS232, solder XLR connectors, 3.5 audio connectors, mount displays, install and cable racks and credenzas, terminate fiber, splice fiber.
- Lift heavy displays
- Experience with Crestron, BiAmp, AMX, or Extron
- Cable workstations with up to 4 different enclave PC’s and using a kvm
- Install mics, touch panels, laptop connections, and cable cubbies in conference tables
- Follow and redline drawings
Example job responsibilities:
- Supporting an AV installation team
- Terminating RJ45 and mounting displays
- Installing mics, touch panels, laptop connections, projectors, speakers, and microphones
- Perform all types of wiring/cabling terminations
- Following redline drawings
Electrician
As our reliance on technology scales, so too does the demand for capable electricians.
Many of our clients in the commercial electrical industry are offering tremendous long term opportunities with the possibility of permanent placement for experienced electricians.
Example preferred qualifications:
- Strong work ethic, ability to follow direction of site lead
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Experience with Rigid and EMT Conduit
- Comfortable working outside within the elements
- Possess a working knowledge of National Electrical Codes
- Perform all clean up tasks
- Ability to work independently after given job details
Example job responsibilities:
- Perform trenching and excavating duties
- Saw, drill, cut, and grind as directed
- Assist in pulling wire or rough-in and staging material
- Installing ½”–4” EMT conduit
- Install boxes and mc cable
